چکیده

We discuss the rich vibrational dynamics of nanometer-scale semiconducting and insulating crystals as probed by localized electronic impurity states, with an emphasis on nanoparticles that are only weakly coupled to their environment. Two principal regimes of electron–phonon dynamics are distinguished, and a brief survey of vibrationalmode broadening mechanisms is presented. Recent work on the effects of mechanical interaction with the environment is discussed. r 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Electron-phonon dynamics in an ensemble of nearly isolated nanoparticles

We investigate the electron population dynamics in an ensemble of nearly isolated insulating nanoparticles, each nanoparticle modeled as an electronic two-level system coupled to a single vibrational mode. We find that at short times the ensemble-averaged excited-state population oscillates but has a decaying envelope. At long times, the oscillations become purely sinusoidal about a ‘‘plateau’’...

ادغام الگوی شبکه‌ای هولشتاین - کاندو برای توصیف نظریه ابررساناهای دمای بالا

It is a common knowledge that the formation of electron pairs is a necessary ingredient of any theoretical work describing superconductivity. Thus, finding the mechanism of the formation of the electron pairs is of utmost importance. There are some experiments on high transition temperature superconductors which support the electron-phonon (e-ph) interactions as the pairing mechanism (ARPES),...

One-phonon relaxation of localized electronic states in anharmonic nanoparticles

There is currently great interest in the dynamics of electrons and phonons in lowdimensional systems, where the effects of quantum confinement cause a dramatic difference in their behaviour as compared with bulk systems. In this paper we consider a localized electronic impurity state (an electronic two-level system) linearly coupled to the vibrational modes of an isolated nanometre-scale insula...

Force Field Parameters for Large-Scale Computational Modeling of Sensitized TiO2 Surfaces

Force field parameters for large scale computational modeling of sensitized TiO2-anatase surfaces are developed from ab initio molecular dynamics simulations and geometry optimization based on Density Functional Theory (DFT). The resulting force field, composed of Coulomb, van der Waals and harmonic interactions, reproduces the ab initio structures and the phonon spectra density profiles of TiO...

Identification of parameters through which surface chemistry determines the lifetimes of hot electrons in small Au nanoparticles.

This paper describes measurements of the dynamics of hot electron cooling in photoexcited gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) with diameters of ∼3.5 nm, and passivated with either a hexadecylamine or hexadecanethiolate adlayer, using ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy. Fits of these dynamics with temperature-dependent Mie theory reveal that both the electronic heat capacity and the electron-ph...
